The Hill

I Ate Dirt at a Showing. Professionally.

Let me set the scene.

Gorgeous mountain property. Beautiful fall day. Clients in tow — and I use the term "clients" loosely, because as it turned out, these two were not even buying. They were doing reconnaissance for friends. But I didn't know that yet. I was still in full professional mode, describing sight lines and lot dimensions and the very charming slope of the backyard like I knew exactly what I was talking about.

The slope.

Right.

One minute I'm standing at the edge of the yard, gesturing vaguely at the tree line, painting a picture of mountain living at its finest. The next minute I am — and there is truly no elegant way to say this — ass over head, rolling down the hill like a human tumbleweed.

I don't know how many rotations. Several. The kind where you genuinely lose track of which direction is up. The kind where you have a very brief, very private conversation with yourself about the choices that led to this moment.

I laid at the bottom of that hill for what felt like the full length of a mortgage term.

According to my witnesses, it was approximately one millisecond.

I stood up. Brushed off what I could. Adjusted my dignity, which was somewhere in the blackberry bushes. Walked back up the hill. And finished the sentence I had started before gravity intervened.

They bought a different house. Their friends did not buy this one.

But here's the thing about mountain properties in Murphy, NC — those yards are not flat and they will not pretend to be. The hills are real. The terrain is beautiful and uneven and occasionally humbling. Just ask me.

I've been a broker here since 2016. I have walked hundreds of properties across seven counties. I have excellent trail shoes now.

If you need someone to show you mountain real estate — someone who has literally rolled for your sins — I'm available.

Just maybe not in heels. (Which I wasn’t wearing)
